This is Laura’s first year teaching the beginners class at Shamrock. She assisted with the class for 2yrs and has competed with her Giant Schnauzers in obedience, conformation, tracking, & agility.
Beginner's II Class
April Laslie:
April started out at Shamrock training her Shih Tzu, Bear, in obedience and then agility classes. Once she went outside and found out about agility she never came back to the obedience! April has been very successful showing her 3 Border Collies in agility trials. She has put many advanced titles on them as well as has attended many camps and seminars on agility training.
Beginning Handling I
Kathy Metcalfe:
Kathy is currently owned by 3 Cardigan Welsh Corgis. She has had a love of dogs since she was young , she used to save stray dogs – I am guessing that not all of them were strays!
Kathy participates in conformation, obedience, rally and her favorite agility. Agility is her stress reliever and a fun time to be spent with her dogs. She has put many titles on dogs some of which are CH’s, CD’s, RE’s , OAP’s, NJP’s and NF and the one she is most proud of is her MACH! Flirt has qualified for the AKC agility Nationals for both 2009 and 2010.
Kathy has attended Awesome Paws camp with Windy Pape, Ali Roukas-Canova and of cours Linda Mecklenburg. She has been fortunate to have takens privates lessons with both Susan Crank and Kandy Robinson. She has also attended seminars with Dr Chris Zink on the performance dog and just recently did a seminar with Silvia Trkman.
Kathy adds a lot to this class with her handling skills and ability to show the students just what she is talking about in learning to handle the dogs and making this fun for all!
Hilary Karrer:
Hilary has been training at Shamrock since 2002 doing both obedience and agility classes. She has found that Agility is the activity her Labradors Retrievers love the most. (next to Dock Dog Diving!) Molly has earned both her AX and AXJ titles while Annie is restarting her career after taking a break from a knee injury. Since starting to teach at Shamrock in 2008 Hilary has worked with dogs of all sizes teaching them not only safety on the agility equipment but also how to have fun.
Intermediate Handling
Vickie Smith:
Vickie started in dogs in 1977 with a small Shih Tzu that had a really big attitude! Having learned a lot from this dog she decided to try something bigger and got her first Doberman Pinscher. Vickie has had Dobe’s since 1985 and did obedience with them before Agility came into the scene. She started showing in agility in 1996 with her second female Doberman. Vickie started teaching Agility at Shamrock in 1998 and has been teaching the Beginning Handling class ever since. In 2001 she got her first male Doberman who had some separation anxiety issues , the agility seemed help by giving him something to do. She also trained a Cock-a-poo in agility for her parents. Vickie has had the experience teaching both big and small dogs agility and understands what it takes to make it a safe fun sport for all kinds of dogs. She is currently working with a 3 year old Dobe who has gotten Obedience and Rally titles and is ready to get out in the agility ring. She also has 2 1 yr old Dobe littermates that are doing some obedience and rally while they are getting old enough to start doing the agility work.
Pam Karcher:
Pam starting training competitive obedience in 1982 with a Poodle named Patches . She went on and put a Companion Dog title on Ginny in 1984 and has since put CD titles on 3 more dogs and CDX’s on two. She started training agility in 1998 with a Sheltie named Blaze and is now training her 4 th Sheltie named Hank. Pam has competed in Excellent with her dogs and currently has put an AX and MXJ on Bandit and is slowly chipping away at that MACH title. Pam adds a lot to this class in helping people with smaller breed dogs especially fast ones get control and teach them to work out and away from the handler. Learning to read your dog and see what is needed to make them work with you as a team is important in agility competition.
Competition Handling
Georgette LaPorte:
Georgette has been involved in training and competing in both agility and obedience with her Australian Terriers since moving to Louisville in 1995. Her Australian Terrier Sprite, MACH Wilgent’s Mischief Maker CDX has been invited several times and has competed in the AKC Agility Invitational in Long Beach , CA. She is currently training her young sheltie Wicked for agility competition. Georgette has taken and attended numerous lesson, seminars and camps presented by Linda Mecklenburg, Wendy Pape, Ann Braue, Jen Pinder, Chris Parker and Linda Robertson. In addition to showing her Australian Terrier Georgette also enjoys showing and handling a Pug named Otis and competes throughtout KY, OH, TN, and IN.
Cathy McKenzie:
Cathy is passionately and actively involved in training and competing with her two Border collies, MACH5 Chip and newcomer, Jack. She currently competes in KY,OH,TN, and IN and has qualified and competed in several AKC National Agility Championships. Not only does Cathy bring the same passion to the agility classes, she brings a wealth of information that she has gathered through the lessons, seminars, and camps she has attended.
